Dysart & Dundonald appoints new leading-drummer

The Grade 1 Dysart & Dundonald Pipe Band of Fife, Scotland, has appointed John Henderson as its new leading-drummer, replacing Brian Purves. Purves had been in the post for two years and, according to sources, has left the band.

Henderson is a former runner-up in the Junior World Solo Drumming Championships, and has played with the band for several years.

Pipe-Major Brian Lamond, currently on holiday, could not be reached for comment.

Sources also report that a total of three other drummers have left along with Purves.

Brian Purves took over the Dysart corps after the departure of Paul Turner. Purves was formerly leading-drummer of the Grade 2 Chivas Regal Pipe Band.

Dysart had a poor season in drumming, finishing last or near the bottom in every championship final. Its best result was sixth in the Grade 1 Qualifying contest at the World Championships. It is not known what band Purves has joined, if any.
