Edinburgh schools go head-to-head at Mod contest

Pupils from three of Edinburgh’s top piping schools will go up against each other in competition at the Edinburgh Mod piping competitions on Friday, September 19, at Tollcross Primary School, in the second year since piping was returned to the event.

In addition, a new Piobaireachd event and a special new trophy donated by Greentrax Recordings are new to the Mod in 2008, which is reserved for pipers younger than 18.

“There will be more piping categories this year including, for the first time, an Under-18 Piobaireachd competition as well as the best overall piper from the Under-18 MSR and Piobaireachd,” said organizer Alasdair Morrison. “There are still a few spaces available, and if anyone is interested in competing I can be contacted at mailto:adm.siubhal@blueyonder.co.uk.”
Pipers have entered for the event from George Heriot’s, George Watson’s College and Stuarts Melville – all Edinburgh schools with strong piping programs.
