Field Marshal Takes European

Belfast, Northern, Ireland – June 22, 2002 – The Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band won the European Pipe Band Championship on its home turf today, with Scottish Champions Shotts & Dykehead coming in second. Field Marshal was first in drumming also.

The Strathclyde Police finished a strong third, continuing their string of solid results since James Wark took over as Pipe-Major.

The St. Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band of Dublin made the prize list, finishing sixth, the first time in several years that the band has placed in a major.

It was also noted that St. Laurence O’Toole, being from Eire, is considered an “overseas” band. Their prize at a major automatically qualifies them for the final at the World Pipe Band Championship, thus reducing the number of spots available to other “overseas” bands.
