First North American Gold Medal Drumming Competition won by Fugate

Kansas City, Missouri – January 17, 2004 – The first Tone Czar & Midwest Highland Arts Fund North American Gold Medal Drumming Championship was held here today, with Eli Fugate of California winning the top prize.

A member of the House of Edgar-Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band, Fugate received a gold-plated medal, US$750 cash, and two round trip tickets for Fugate and a piper to compete at the 2004 World Solo Drumming Championship.

Sponsored by Tone Czar Bagpipes of Maryland, the event is by far the richest solo drumming competition yet established.

3rd Eric MacNeill, Albany, New York

Judges for the contest were Reid Maxwell, John Fisher, and Jim Kilpatrick.
