Fredericton invited to Lorient festival
Piper & Drummer Online has learned that the Grade 2 Fredericton Society of St. Andrew Pipe Band will attend the Lorient Interceltic Music Festival in France in August, accepting an invitation from organizers.
New Brunswick-based Fredericton is the second North American civilian band to attend the festival. The Los Angeles Scots previously appeared at the event.
Fredericton will perform throughout the festival and compete in the Scottish pipe band events at the Breton Championships. The band has to pay for travel Lorient, but the festival covers accommodation and meals.
Fourth prize winners in Grade 2 at the 2003 North American Championships, the band will carry on from Lorient to compete at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.
“In order to do this we are doing a lot more fundraising then normal year,” said Chris Gallant, president of Fredericton.
The band will travel for three weeks before returning home.
