Gandy Cleans Up at BC Indoor Meet

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada – April 13-14, 2001 – The 69th annual BC Pipers Association Indoor Meet took place at the both the United Scottish Cultural Centre and Simon Fraser University. Bruce Gandy of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, swept the boards in the professional piping events, in which 15 competitors played.

Of note was the fact that the dominant local band, Simon Fraser University, were not present due to the band’s tour of New Zealand and Australia, thus resulting in no Grade 1 mini band event and a substantial decrease in solo competitors.

The biggest contest of the event is the professional piobaireachd, with the first prize being coverage of the cost of a flight to Scotland.

Willie McCallum of Bearsden, Scotland, was the guest judge at the contest, and gave a well-received recital to a packed house.
