Gannaway bag making business sold

The well known pipe bags and piping accessories business D&M Gannaway Ltd. of Christchurch, New Zealand, has been sold to new proprietors, Mike and Sue Shannon of Temuka, New Zealand. The new company will be called “Gannaway NZ.”

The business will move to the Shannons’ home, about 90 miles south of Christchurch. Scott Shannon, a piper well known in New Zealand, will also work in the company.

“We will be working with Mike and Scott for some weeks to ensure a smooth transition and to maintain a good service to all customers,” said Gannaway.

The Shannons have many years of experience working in the leather industry, and they will reportedly maintain the existing Gannaway product line of bags and accessories.

Gannaway pipe bags are generally made from cow hide leather and tanned with a special formula of water soluble materials, designed to allow moisture to pass through the hide assisting in controlling wetness. Gannaway hide bags fitted with a zip (pictured, right) have proven popular with solo and band pipers, as has the company’s moisture control system.
