Gillies Sweeps Metro Cup Contest

Newark, New Jersey – February 17, 2001 – Alasdair Gillies of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, won both events at the annual Metro Cup piping competition, putting in two excellent performances against a relatively large field.

The event saw two Scottish pipers, Stuart Liddell of Inveraray and John Patrick of Fankerton, flew in for the contest, combining their trips with recitals in the area.

For the first time, the contest added a piobaireachd event.
