Going loopy

Dear TSG:

I have a question about those little loops that are at the top of kilts at the each side. Seems like every kilt has them, but in 40 years I don’t think I have ever actually used them for anything. I assume they might be for hanging up the kilt to dry or something, but I think they are just a nuisance.

What do you think?

Hollywood Hang-Up

I agree; these little things are a nuisance. I never actually use them because I have never allowed my kilts to become so sodden that they needed to air-dry like that. Modern kilt hanger technology has resulted in many tidier options.

What to do with those little loops? Here’s a radical idea: cut them off. Or, better yet, ask your kiltmaker to remove them neatly. They are an unnecessary inconvenience, and no amount of tucking will keep them from edging over the top of your kilt, spoiling your great look.

Get a sharp knife now, and hold your own kilt bris.

Yo. Shalom. Out.

  1. I noticed Gordon Walker wearing red laces at the Dan Reid Memorial Invitational last year. It looked rather stylish on him. He certainly did not appear the ‘dandy’.
