Gordon Duncan to Take Over Queensland Police Pipe Band

Gordon Duncan of Pitlochry, Scotland, has reportedly decided to immigrate to Australia to assume the Pipe-Major position of the Grade 1 Queensland Police Pipe Band.

He takes over from David Barnes, who will return to his native Scotland this fall.

Duncan is world famous mainly for his virtuoso performances of light music, particularly jigs and reels. He has several critically acclaimed recordings to his credit, and has been a member of the MacNaughton’s Vale of Atholl Pipe Band for many years.

David Barnes was Pipe-Major of the Polkemmet Pipe Band during that band’s successful run in the early 1990s. He has a collection of music and is the son of the legendary Johnny Barnes, a famous Pipe-Major of the Polkemmet band in the 1970s.
