Gourock cancelled due to rain

The Gourock Highland Games has been cancelled by organizers for apparent “safety concerns” due to the grounds being swamped after heavy rain. No further details were provided.

The Sunday, May 10th, event was to be the first outdoor competition for many bands on Scotland’s west coast.

The start of the Scottish season on May 9th was apparently proceeding as planned in Dunbar on Scotland’s east coast.

There have been several instances on pipe band events being cancelled, primarily because of the threat of band buses becoming mired in mud.

  1. What a surprise….It would be more interesting if the games were cancelled due to fear of players and the public suffering from heatstroke and sunburn. As far as the buses go, perhaps the answer would be to use hovercrafts or tracked vehicles…….Good luck with that!

  2. LOL! It’s a shame because today 9th May is the best day – hot sun, gentle breeze, blue skies, brilliant day for a Highland Games, but no doubt a few more days would be needed to sort the ground out.
