Grey Takes Toronto Pro K-O

Toronto – March 9, 2002 – Michael Grey, Dundas, Ontario, won his second consecutive Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario Toronto Branch Professional Invitational Knockout Competition today at the Officers’ Mess of the Fort York Armoury in the west end of Toronto.

Grey won the $1000 first prize against a formidable field of ten other pipers, receiving a bye to the second round because of his win in 2001, since only eleven players total entered. All three rounds of the contest were held on the same day.

Round One (Hornpipe & Jig)

  • Colin Clansey, Ottawa, beat Ian McDonald, Aurora, Ontario
  • Andrew Berthoff, Toronto, beat Martyn Brown, Barrie, Ontario
  • Peter Aumonier, Oakville, Ontario, beat Hector MacDonald, Pickering, Ontario
  • Jason Briscoe, Toronto beat James McHattie, Toronto
  • John Cairns, London, Ontario, beat Robert Crabtree, Toronto

    Round Two (MSR)

  • Michael Grey beat Andrew Berthoff
  • John Cairns beat Jason Briscoe
  • Colin Clansey beat Peter Aumonier

    The final round 5-7 minute own-choice medley event comprised Grey, Cairns and Clansey. Michael Grey was first, Colin Clansey second, and John Cairns third.

    All events were judged by Bob Worrall and Tom Anderson.
