Henderson prize “Pimp My Bagpipe!” pipes ready for shipping to winner

The prize Henderson pipes going to Haley Brinton of Dunedin, Florida.Twelve-year-old Haley Brinton of Dunedin, Florida, will receive her prize Henderson bagpipe in a few weeks as the winner of the first-ever pipes|drums “Pimp My Bagpipe!” contest sponsored by R.G Hardie & Co. Bagpipe Makers of Glasgow. Haley’s entry to the contest was selected from the dozens of other submissions as the instrument and piper most deserving of a complete bagpipe make-over.

“The pipes are sounding great,” said Alastair Dunn, managing director of R.G. Hardie & Co. “We have reeds specifically set-up for them, and we have been getting great reviews from people who have heard them.”

Alastair Dunn testing the prize pipes destined for Haley Brinton. The cracked and mismatched set of pipes that Brinton had been playing as a Grade 3 Amateur piper gained her the nod in the pipes|drums contest. She entered thinking that she may only have her existing instrument refurbished, but Dunn decided to go the whole-hog and replace her set with a brand new Henderson PH1 bagpipes with engraved nickel mounts. The pipes sell for a suggested retail price of $2,250 (£1000).

“There will be at least four of these models being played in the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band this year,” added Dunn, Pipe-Sergeant with the current World Champions.
