Inveraray & District rises up for prestigious Pre-World’s show

In only eight years, Inveraray & District has gone from a Tuesday night chanter class in the small Argyll, Scotland, town, to one of the world’s top-tier Grade 1 bands, so the band has aptly named its “Pre-World’s” show at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on August 14, 2013, “Ascension.

Tickets for the often sold-out event go on sale on Friday, December 7th, via the concert hall’s online and in-person box office.

We are delighted to be asked by the Glasgow Skye Association to do the 2013 Pre-Worlds Concert,” said Inveraray & District Pipe-Major Stuart Liddell. “This event has become a highlight of the pipe band calendar and we are honoured to follow in the footsteps of so many great bands. Our main aim is to entertain the audience, ensuring that everyone has an enjoyable evening and goes home happy.”

When pressed for preview details of what the August audience can look forward to, Liddell and Leading-Drummer Steven McWhirter revealed that “the band hopes to provide the listener with an appreciation of a wide variety of music from all corners of the globe,” from piping classics contemporary material by band members Pipe-Sergeant Dougie Campbell and Alasdair Henderson and the renowned Melbourne-based composer, Mark Saul.

Liddell also revealed that Saul, the Pipe-Major of Australia’s Grade 2 Hawthorne City Pipe Band, has joined Inveraray & District.

McWhirter let on that the concert will include a drum fanfare performance of The Limerick Society
