Johnston and Beaumont Win Big at Scottish Junior Solo Championships

Carnoustie, Scotland – September 22, 2001 – Finlay Johnston of Glasgow and Callum Beaumont of Bo’Ness were the big winners at the annual Scottish Junior Solo Pipers Championship at Carnoustie today.

The event is the annual end of year showcase for the best under-16 and under-13 pipers in the United Kingdom, and is held in the Tayside town most known for its renowned golf course.

The winner of the 13-16 Champion of Champions title receives a two-week trip to attend a summer piping school in the United States, while the winner of the under-13 event gets one week of instruction at the Piping Centre in Glasgow and a new set of pipes.

Finlay Johnston is the son of the well known Tom Johnston, former drummer with British Caledonian Airways, and Anne Sinclair, who, along with Anne Spalding, was one of the first females ever to play at the Argyllshire Gathering and Northern Meeting in 1975.
