LA Scots Bolster Ranks

The Los Angeles Scots Pipe Band has reportedly strengthened its ranks with the addition of Ian Whitelaw to the Pipe-Sergeant position and the return of Carl Lenny as Leading Drummer.

The band has also apparently added Tony Sloan, who recently left the Pipe-Major spot of the Royal Ulster Constabulary Pipe Band (RUC), to the pipe section.

All will play under Pipe-Major Scott MacDonald, who retains the position he left temporarily in 2000.

Whitelaw, a resident of the Los Angeles area, most recently played with the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band. He also has been with the New Zealand Police, and provided tuning assistance to the RUC.

The LA Scots did not attend the 2001 World Pipe Band Championships due mainly to their personnel challenges. The band expects to compete at this year’s contest, along with the San Francisco Grade 1 counterparts, Prince Charles.
