Llariegu Wins First Asturian Pipe Band Championship

Gijon, Asturias, Spain – Banda de Gaites Llariegu won the first ever Asturian Pipe Band Championship here today amid a strong field of bands, which use mainly Spain’s Gaita pipe with traditional regional drums.

Competitions have been held in Galicia, Spain, for over 20 years, but in Asturias they are still an innovation.

2nd Banda de Gaites “Villa De Xixon”
3nd Banda de Gaites “Villaviciosa-El Gaitero”
4th Banda de Gaites “Ribesella”
5th Banda de Gaites “Corvera”
6th Banda de Gaites “Mieres del Camin”

The championship was judged by Fernando Dopico, Carlos Lorenzo, Xoan Losada, and Maria Santiso. Bands are judged on four categories: aesthetic, tuning, percussion and interpretation.
