MacLellan Elected to Another Term as CPA President

Perth, Scotland – October 19, 2002 – The Competing Pipers Association held its annual general meeting at the Salutation Hotel today, and Colin MacLellan, Edinburgh; Brian Donaldson, Fife; and Jenny Hazzard, Edinburgh were re-elected for three-year terms as President, Vice President and Treasurer, respectively.

Gary Stronach, Perth, stepped down as Secretary.

The CPA also appointed members to its organizational committee, and, for the first time, non-UK-based pipers were added, marking a general push in the association to become more international in scope. Committee members are: Pipe-Major Michael Gray, The Highlanders; Michael Grey, Dundas, Ontario; James MacGregor, Perth; Anne Spalding, Broughty Ferry; Iain Speirs, Edinburgh; and Greg Wilson, New Zealand.

It was also decided in principle that the next CPA AGM would be held during the summer so that a stronger international presence could attend.

Other items reviewed at the meeting included a discussion of a reconstituted Joint Committee for Judging, the creation of new B and C grade competitions in Scotland, and several changes that may be made at the Argyllshire Gathering, Northern Meeting, and Scottish Piping Society of London competitions.
