Madeiros Wins Harrison Drumming

Hamilton, Ontario – March 9, 2002 – Ian Madeiros of the Toronto Police Pipe Band won the annual George Harrison Invitational Solo Drumming Competition here this evening in an event that saw 10 of North America’s top side drummers vie for perhaps the most prestigious drumming prize outside of the World Solo Championships in Scotland.

The Grade 1 Toronto Police Pipe Band made a clean sweep of the Professional category.

3rd Alan Savage, Toronto Police

Also competing in the event were Richard Baughman, Toronto Police; Andrew Hoinacki, Chicago Caledonian; Jeremy Keddy, Toronto Police; Michael Crawley, 78th Fraser Highlanders; Harvey Dawson, Niagara Police; Jacquie Troy, Toronto; and Sandy McKail, Celtic Flair.

Grade 1
1st Alexander Douglas, Syracuse, New York
2nd Iain Cleaton, Belleville, Ontario
3rd Craig Mercer, Toronto
4th David Bowman, Winnipeg

Grade 2
1st Sean Donaldson, Kingston, Ontario
2nd David Jensen, Toronto

All events were judged by Blair Brown of Winnipeg, and the contest was held at the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders of Canada’s Officers’ Mess at James Street Armoury in downtown Hamilton.
