Marlacoo attracts Field Marshal for April Armagh concert

The Grade 2 Marlacoo Pipe Band of Northern Ireland has announced that it will host the 2006 World Champions Field Marshal Montgomery at a concert in Armagh, Northern Ireland, on April 14, 2007.

Priced at £15 each, tickets for the 8 pm show at the Armagh City Hotel are to go on sale on February 8 from various outlets, including McVeigh Highland Exports in Caledon, Co. Tyrone, Richard Hare Kilts in Belfast, Kintail Bagpipe Makers in Glasgow, and directly from the Armagh City Hotel.

The Marlacoo band said that the concert will also feature “friends” performing, but did not provide details. The show will be the latest in what is turning out to be a busy concert season for Field Marshal. The band performed at Celtic Connections in Glasgow on January 27, and will take the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall stage on August 8 for the annual Phoenix Honda Glasgow Skye Pipe Band pre-World’s concert.

The Marlacoo Pipe Band has made a successful transition to Grade 2 since being promoted after the 2005 season, finishing eighth at the All-Ireland Championship and thirteenth overall at the World Championships.

  1. Marlacoo’s transition to Grade 2 is overstated. 8th place in the All Irelands 2006 was in fact last place on the day. Only 8 bands competed. They did not come 13th overall in the World’s as they did not even qualify from their Heat. 13th was their placing in Heat 2.
