Martyn Bennett, Edinburgh

Martyn Bennett, the well-known and popular piper and recording artist, died on January 30 after a lengthy bout with cancer.

Bennett was one of piping’s major innovators, combining the instrument with electronics, capturing new audiences for the pipe as he expanded its musical possibilities. His last recording, GRIT, was released in late 2003.

A memorial will be held for Martyn Bennett on February 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael and All Saints Church, Brougham Street, Edinburgh.
