New Celtic Festival in the Works for Uruguay

If all goes as planned, Montevideo, Uruguay, will stage a major Celtic festival to help launch a new open air auditorium in the downtown of the South American capital city on March 28-30.

The Southern Cross Pipe Band is reportedly working with a major the business group to inaugurate the auditorium with 1er Festival Celta de Montevideo (First Celtic Festival in Montevideo).

According to Pipe-Major Eduardo Silvera of the Southern Cross band, “We are sure it’ll have a tremendous impact on the whole region. We’ve seen what they are about to complete and it is indeed very nice.

In recent years, the band has held sold-out successful workshops and concerts, bringing in instructors and performers from Canada, including Bob Worrall of Burlington, Ontario, Tyler Fry of Kincardine, Ontario, and Hamilton, Ontario’s Celtic folk group, Scantily Plaid.

According to sources, the Celtic folk group Seanachie and the City of Dunedin Pipe Band of Dunedin, Florida, are confirmed for the event, as well as a Galician folk group from Argentina, a Celtic folk group from Chile, and an Argentinean Asturian Pipe Band.
