New Patrick Molard piobaireachd CD ready for release

The Brittany-based piper Patrick Molard (pictured right) will release his second compact disc of piobaireachd in the next few weeks, with the album containing several tunes that have never before been commercially released.

Entitled “The Waking of the Bridegroom,” or “Dusgadh fir na bainnse” in Gaelic, the CD features the title track, a piobaireachd taken from David Glen’s Collection of Ancient Piobaireachd, as well as “Fhailt Na Misk,” a previously unpublished and unrecorded piece of ceol mor from Colin Campbell canntaireachd manuscript.

Also on the CD will be “The Munros’ Salute,” “Clanranald’s Salute,” “Sir Ewen Cameron of Lochiel’s Salute,” and “Lament for the Only Son” from Donald MacDonald’s manuscript. The CD will also include “A Prelude” from John MacDonald of Inverness.

Scotland’s MacMeanmna Records is releasing the project, which the well known piobaireachd master Andrew Wright says, “demonstrates the scope of [Molard’s] piobaireachd repertoire. The overall result is an excellent recital of piobaireachd music played with verve and emotion using a wide range of quality bagpipe sound to play styles and settings from a bygone era.”

While not a frequent competitor in Scotland, Patrick Molard’s knowledge and playing of piobaireachd is well regarded. He was a pupil of Bob Brown and Bob Nicol during the 1970s.
