Ontario season finally to get going at Georgetown

After a brutally long winter the outdoor piping and drumming competition season in Ontario will begin on Saturday, June 14, with its traditional opener at Georgetown.

With a large number of entries, the morning solo events will likely push into the early afternoon, with both Grade 3 and Grade 4 piping broken into two sections.

Of note, the contest marks the first for the new-look Grade 1 Peel Regional Police Pipe Band, which will take the field with Pipe-Major Glenn Brown and Leading-Drummer Graham Brown. The Browns were appointed to the leader-positions shortly after the close of the 2007 season. They had previously played with the House of Edgar-Shotts & Dykehead Pipe Band for five seasons.

The three-band Grade 1 contest will be a medley-of-choice, after the Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario agreed to honour a request to reduce the submission requirement from two.

Stay tuned to pipes|drums for results from Georgetown as they become available.
