PPBSO changes AGM date to Dec. 9
October 16, 2006
The executive committee of the Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario (PPBSO) has decided to change its annual general meeting to Saturday, December 9, 2006, from its original announced date of November 11, after many members were found unable or unwilling to attend an AGM on Remembrance Day.
The meeting will be held in Guelph, Ontario, at the Colonel John McCrae Legion.
Some bands had made it known that they would boycott the November 11 meeting out of respect to fallen soldiers, while others took no real issue with the timing, as the meeting was scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
The PPBSO executive had indicated that it was bound to the November 11 date because of a combination of unavailability of a suitable venue and a perceived requirement to hold the meeting within a certain time-frame. A Comment posted to the story on pipes|drums pointed out that the organization’s AGM needed to be held only before February 2007, 15 months after the previous meeting.
In a pipes|drums Poll that asked “Should the PPBSO change the date of its November 11 AGM?” 79 per cent of respondents answered “Yes.”
The PPBSO’s Champion Supreme awards celebration will also be held on December 9. The organization’s President, Ron Rollo, indicated that further details will be availble at the Society’s website soon.
