Peel Police Continue Winning Trend At Chatham

Chatham, Ontario – July 12, 2003 – The Peel Regional Police Pipe Band of Brampton, Ontario, won convincingly here today.

With three firsts, Peel took the prize over the Toronto Police in what was only a two band Grade 1 contest. The 78th Fraser Highlanders again decided not to attend, and now look at the crucible of the North American Pipe Band Championship at Maxville, Ontario, on August 2 as the first competition for the band and new lead drummer John Fisher.

Grade 2 went to the North Coast Pipe Band of Cleveland, Ohio, with Dofasco and Halton Regional Police rounding out the first prizes in grades 3 and 4, respectively.

In the Professional Solo Piping, Ian K. MacDonald of Whitby, Ontario, had another heady day, with three first prizes, with prize lists showing little consistency.

Weather was in the low 20s, overcast and breezy, but none of the predicted showers transpired. The paying crowd was large for the event that is reportedly struggling financially.
