Pipe band appeal nets more than 100 toys

More than one-hundred toys were collected by the Grade 1 Peel Regional Police Pipe Band from the world’s piping and drumming community after the band stepped forward following the theft of a trailer full of items destined for the force’s annual Toys for Tots campaign.

“The Peel Regional Police Pipe Band would like to thank our members, their families, friends and others from the pipe band community, whose generosity will make Christmas more special for a number of families,” said Pipe-Major John Cairns.

The band completed its toy drive in conjunction with a two-day weekend practice in Brampton, Ontario.

After the trailer was stolen on September 26th, the Peel Regional Police force recovered the vehicle, but with only half of the original contents. Two men were arrested on October 14th, but the remaining items have not been recovered.

Cairns said that donations had come from numerous parts of the pipe band world.
