Reilly Elected Chairman of RSPBA National Council (updated)
Glasgow, Scotland – March 8, 2003 – Kevin Reilly was elected to the position of chairman of the National Council of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) at the organization’s annual general meeting at the Radisson SAS Hotel.
Reilly takes over from George Ussher, who resigned the post in February to take over as RSPBA president.
The National Council is the controlling body of the RSPBA, comprising branches from around the United Kingdom. All functions of the association are conducted through the National Council.
Kevin Reilly has been a National Council representative for the North East England Branch for several years. Slightly more than 50 of the RSPBA’s more than 200 member bands were represented at the meeting.
There was no discussion, as some had predicted, of Grade 1 non-RSPBA bands that had joined the association relinquishing their “overseas” status. Both the 78th Fraser Highlanders and Simon Fraser University bands had joined the RSPBA late last year, but resigned their memberships when they learned their status as RSPBA member bands might require them to qualify for the Grade 1 final of the World Pipe Band Championships through the league table system or on the day of the event.
