SFU To Play Massey Hall, Toronto, in 2003

The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band (SFU) will play at least two major concerts in 2003, including an April stop in Toronto at Massey Hall.

The last pipe band to play the downtown Toronto venue was the 78th Fraser Highlanders in 1988, the year after it became the first non-Scottish band to win the World Pipe Band Championship.

SFU will appear at Massey Hall on Friday, April 25th, and will play on Sunday, April 27th, at the Mechanics Hall in Worcester, Massachusetts. The band is also apparently looking for a suitable venue for a concert in the Canadian Maritimes.

SFU will make its first trip to Ontario in 20 years when it returns to the North American Pipe Band Championships at Maxville this August, where it will perform and compete. SFU’s paid appearance at the Glengarry Highland Games has resulted in the 78th Fraser Highlanders protesting the event – a news story that has received widespread attention.

The 78th Frasers will compete at the Bridge of Allan games in Scotland the week before the World Championships in Glasgow.
