SFU concert sold out; obstructed view seating opened up

Just a few days after pipes|drums reported that only about 300 tickets were left for the 2008 World Champion Simon Fraser University Pipe Band’s August 12th concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, organizers have said that the event is officially sold out.

Dougie Orr of the Phoenix Honda-Glasgow Skye Pipe Band, which has produced the “Pre-World’s Concert” for more than 15 years, said, “We are putting 50 restricted view seats on sale at a reduced price. Once they sell we will release a further 100 tickets for a further reduced price for standing-room at the rear of the circle.”

Price of the restricted view seats has been set at £15, a £2.50 reduction over regularly priced tickets.

When asked why he thought the SFU “Affirmation” concert is such a draw, Pipe-Major Terry Lee said, “I think the band’s reputation is that of a good concert band as well as a competitive one. This is proven by the last time we did a complete show on that stage.
It was our own tour in March 2002 (a Monday night), after Belfast on the Saturday, and we sold it out to a very enthusiastic audience. It was a great night.

“We are coming full circle from ‘On Home Ground’ to ‘Live in Glasgow,'” Lee added.

Remaining tickets are available from the GRCH online box office.

  1. Perhaps the sellout may have something to do with the content. Would the concert sell out of Wolfstone wasn’t playing? People get tired of the same old same old”. It shows good judgement and creativity on SFU’s part to expand and diversify the content of the concert

  3. Quality speaks for itself then. This is also great news for the Phoenix Honda Glasgow Skye Pipe Band, so a double whammy. It must take a fair bit of organising.

  4. janettemontaque re: qaulity speaks for itself? field marshall concert 2 years ago was one of the greatest concerts ever and that wasnt sold out. maybe you should take your blinkers off and look at pipe bands from outsde canada/north america for concerts.
