San Fransisco recital-contest won by McCallum

San Francisco – March 27, 2004 – Willie McCallum of Bearsden, Scotland, continued his successful 2004 solo piping campaign by winning the annual Dan Reid Memorial Invitational event.

It was the first time in the event’s 10-year history that Bill Livingstone of Whitby, Ontario, did not attend. Criteria for invitation to the event are not widely known. The event is described as a “recital challenge,” and has been judged every year by Archie Cairns.

Tunes – many of which are obscure – specifically set for the competition are assigned to competitors to play.
