Six Bands Qualify for Grade 1 World’s Final

Glasgow, Scotland – August 10, 2002 – After a March, Strathspey & Reel competition to determine which bands would be added to the final of 14 total bands, six were selected to go through, and they are (in alphabetical order):

  • David Urquhart Travel
  • Los Angeles Scots (USA)
  • Lothian & Borders Police
  • Peel Regional Police (Canada)
  • Ravara
  • Toronto Police (Canada)

    The MSR was judged by J. Campbell, Dixie Ingram (piping); Jim Baxter (drumming); and Alistair Aitkin (ensemble).

    The six bands now join nine others that had qualified before through results from other contests in the final round this afternoon.

  • 78th Fraser Highlanders (Canada)
  • Boghall & Bathgate
  • Dysart & Dundonald
  • Field Marshal Montgomery (Northern Ireland)
  • ScottishPower
  • Shotts & Dykehead
  • Simon Fraser University (Canada)
  • Strathclyde Police
  • St. Laurence O’Toole (Eire)

    The final comprises a March, Strathspey & Reel (submit two, play one) and a Medley (own choice) in two different events, in the same order of play. The aggregate results deterimine the 2002 World Champion.
