Six Qualifiers for World’s Grade 1 Final Announced

The six additional qualifiers for the Grade 1 final at today’s World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow have been announced at the contest today at Glasgow Green.

City of Washington, Alberta Caledonia, David Urquhart Travel, Toronto Police, Dysart & Dundonald and the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) will be going through to the final, playing against pre-qualifiers Boghall & Bathgate, Field Marshal Montgomery, McNaughton’s Vale of Atholl, ScottishPower, the 78th Fraser Highlanders, Shotts & Dykehead, Simon Fraser University, and Strathclyde Police.

Bands played a March, Strathpsey & Reel in the qualifying round, which started at 8:50 AM GMT. The qualifier was judged by Allan Ronaldson and George Shepherd (piping), Gordon Parkes (drumming), and John MacInnes (ensemble).

In the final round, bands play an MSR in the first heat, then go on to play a medley of their own choice. Bands submit two MSRs and draw one to play at the starting line.

The draw for the final, which starts at 12.00 PM (GMT) has also been made:
