Strathclyde Police to Take Ulster Stage in May

The Strathclyde Police Pipe Band of Glasgow have announced that they will perform in Maghera, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, on May 3rd. The concert marks the first time the 12-time winners of the World Pipe Band Championships have performed in a concert setting in Northern Irelandd.

The performance will be in conjunction with the Mid-Ulster Drumming School.

Since the band was taken over by Pipe-Major James Wark in 2001 it has enjoyed a resurgence in competitive success, finishing fourth in the last year’s RSPBA Grade 1 Champion of Champions table.

Also on the May 3rd concert bill will be Inverness Gold Medallist Stuart Liddell of Inveraray, Scotland. The Strathclyde Police have added drummers Derek Smyth, formerly with the Royal Ulster Constabulary, and Les Galbraith, formerly with the David Urquhart Travel Pipe Band, and the concert will be their first performances with the band.
