Sue McIntyre Awarded MBE

Susan McIntyre of Inverness, Scotland, has been made a Member of the British Empire, Cival, (MBE) for “services to piping” in the Queen’s annual New Year Honours List.

McIntyre once was a Pipe-Sergeant in the Scots Guards, and was made Pipe-Major of the Trucial Oman Scouts. She was later appointed to the staff at the Scots Guards Piping School as piping instructor.

After leaving the Guards, McIntyre settled on Skye where she became the first full time piping tutor for the Scottish education system. She then moved to Ayrshire where she became a sought after piping teacher, and now lives in Inverness where she teaches locally. McIntyre has taught piping to over 1000 pupils.

Sue McIntyre was the only piper on the 2001 honours list.
