Updated: MacLeod roars ahead with sixth Silver Chanter

Dunvegan, Scotland – August 5, 2009 – Roddy MacLeod of Glasgow won his sixth Silver Chanter at Dunvegan Castle on the Isle of Skye, tying Hugh MacCallum’s record for most victories. It was also MacLeod’s third consecutive gain of the prize.
 
Six pipers in total are invited to the event, which pays homage to the legendary MacCrimmon family of piobaireachd composers. Competitors are assigned a piobaireachd attributed to or connected with the MacCrimmons.

Other competitors were Gordon Walker, Galston, Scotland (“Lament for Patrick Og MacCrimmon”); William Geddes ("Lament for MacSwan of Roiag"); Jonathon Greenlees, Northern Ireland ("Lament for the Children"); Niall Stewart, Kyle of Lochalsh, Scotland ("Too Long in this Condition"); and Stuart Liddell, Inveraray, Scotland ("Lament for the Only Son").

The event is now organized by the Isle of Skye Piping Society with the support of William Grant & Sons Ltd.
