Vale of Atholl Wins Dunbar

Dunbar, Scotland – May 10, 2003 – The Vale of Atholl Pipe Band kicked off the 2003 RSPBA outdoor season with a win at Dunbar, on Scotland’s east coast, in bright skies and a cold North Sea wind. Grade 2 was won by Dumbarton & District.

Grade 1 (MSR)
1st Vale of Atholl
2nd Strathclyde Police
3rd Boghall & Bathgate
4th Lothian & Borders Police
Drumming: Lothian & Border Police
Judges: A. Ronaldson, J. Baxter

Dysart & Dundonald and David Urquhart Travel competed also.

Grade 2 (medley)
1st Dumbarton & District
2nd 52nd Lowland Regiment
3rd Coalburn IOR
4th Drambuie Kirkliston
Drumming: Drambuie
Judges: G. Shepherd, A. Aitken

A total of 11 bands played in Grade 2.

An MSR and Medley were selected the requirement in grades 1 and 2, respectively, it was thought by some because they will be featured at the first major championship, the Scottish, at Dumbarton on May 17.
