Windsor Police Wins Fergus
Fergus, Ontario – August 11, 2001 – On a day that saw much of the competition playing at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, the annual Fergus Highland Games probably had a larger paying crowd and much better weather.
Although competitor numbers were down, the standard was high across all band events and the professional solo piping. Windsor Police took top honours in Grade 2, while Grade 3 was won by the Toronto Police. There was no Grade 1 competition, with Celtic Flair putting on small concert instead.
It was estimated that over 60,000 people came to the Fergus Games, including former Prime Minister the Right Honourable Joe Clark, leader of Canada’s Progressive Conservative Party. Weather was perfect, in the low 80s with bright skies.
