World’s Top Pipers Prepare for Inverness

A carefully chosen selection of the world’s top players are preparing to convene at this year’s Northern Meeting at Inverness, Scotland, this Wednesday and Thursday for the most important event of the solo piping year.

The Clasp, Silver Star Former Winners March Strathspey & Reel, Silver Medal, and A Grade MSR will be held on September 5, while the Highland Society of London’s Gold Medal, B Grade light music, and A Grade Hornpipe & Jig will be on September 6.

The Clasp is reserved for previous winners of the Gold Medal at Inverness, while the Gold Medal is limited to only 30 pipers who had their applications approved based on their previous competitive success.

Due to increasing numbers and time constraints in the Former Winners MSR, this year the Northern Meeting will introduce a qualifying MSR for those who have won one, but not both, of the A Grade light music events.
