Argyllshire Gathering piob and MSR judges announced

The adjudicators for the piobaireachd events and Silver Star MSR at the 2016 Argyllshire Gathering at Oban, Scotland, have been announced by the organizers, with three Canadians sprinkled across the five contests. Patricia Henderson of Kirriemuir, Scotland, is the lone female adjudicator. The 12 of the 28 contestants in the Gold Medal competition and 16 of 28 accepted for the Silver Medal are non-Scottish. Six female pipers were accepted for the total 56 spots across all events.

The Argyllshire Gathering is considered one of the premier solo piping competitions, and the counterpart to the Northern Meeting at Inverness, Scotland, the following week.

The indoor piobaireachd and Former Winners MSR events are held on Wednesday, August 24th, and the remaining light music competitions for A- and B-Grade players will be held outdoors at the Argyllshire Gathering Park on Thursday, August 25th, regardless of the weather.

Traditionally, the winner of the Gold Medal leads a competitors’ march to the park on Thursday morning, with the Oban gentry following.

A full list of those accepted for the Argyllshire Gathering can be seen in the March 7, 2016, pipes|drums story.

Adjudication code of conduct in Scotland mandates that judges declare who their pupils have been and refrain from judging them at events.
