Lanark makes a move

The Grade 3A Lanark & District Pipe Band, which lost Stuart Shedden as its Pipe-Major after the Cowal Championships, has appointed Derek Marr as the band’s new leader. The move was approved and made official by the band at a meeting on September 16th.

Marr was formerly Pipe-Major of the Grade 2 Polkemmet Pipe Band before the group’s demise in 2007, after a failed attempt to re-start the band. He played with the Grade 1 Lothian & Borders Police in 2008.

According to sources with the band, after pipes|drums reported on the story, various interested parties expressed their interest in becoming the band’s pipe-major, and several of them attended practices to gauge the potential fit.

Lanark & District finished twelfth out of 24 bands in Grade 3A at the 2008 World Pipe Band Championships.
