Midlothian, Greater Midwest split Alma

Alma, Michigan – May 26-27, 2018 – The 51st Annual Alma Highland Games were held on a hot and sunny Memorial Day weekend, with the official United States Pipe Band Championships taken place on the second day. Overall bands entries were down, and only one Grade 1 band attended, but a three-band Grade 2 event saw Midlothian Scottish and Greater Midwest split the first prizes, and the latter taking the title. Wasatch & District from Bountiful, Utah, made the long journey. Professional Piper of the Day was Tyler Johnson, and Cameron Bolley gained Professional Snare Drummer of the Day honours. Joseph Horwath and Clark Harner took home Amateur Piper and Amateur Snare Drummer of the Day awards, respectively.

  1. Obviously you will want to verify this with the Midwest Pipe Band Association, but I understand that the Alma College Pipe Band was subsequently disqualified from the Grade 4 Band Contest which had been held on Saturday.
