Murray and McWhirter overall winners at Kingdom Thistle solos

Lochgelly, Scotland – April 11, 2009 – Douglas Murray of Cupar, Scotland, and Steven McWhirter of Northern Ireland were the overall winners in the Open piping and drumming categories, respectively at the first Kingdom Thistle solo competitions held at Lochgelly High School. There were no piobaireachd events.

  1. I believe that Douglas and not James was the overall winner. The contest was run under RSPBA aggregate ruling, therefore 2 x 2nds beats a 1st and a 3rd. At least they gave the biggest trophy to Douglas!

  2. Hi All, Just to clear something up….. The contest results were decided by the total cumulative placings from each Adjudicator, Then these totals added together to get the over all winner. EXAMPLE: MSR. Adj 1 gives 10th, Adj 2 gives 6th = 16. HP&JIG Adj 1 gives 9th. Adj 2 gives 12th = 21 16 + 21 = 37…total overall. Same way that the world solo drumming was compiled. This is how the contest was compiled. Thanks, Paul
