PPBSO corrects Maxville Grade 4 result

The Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario has said that, due mainly to a computer error, it made a mistake in the calculation of the Grade 4 band competition at the North American Championships in Maxville, Ontario, on August 2nd.

The correct result is:

1st Penetangore
2nd Paris/Port Dover
3rd Brighton
4th Windsor Police (Gr4)
5th Flint Scottish
6th Rob Roy

The incorrect result that was announced at the prize-giving ceremony that was held inside the neighbouring hockey arena due to the poor weather was:

1st Rob Roy
2nd Dartmouth & District
3rd London Firefighters
4th Penetangore
5th Paris/Port Dover
6th Windsor Police (Gr4)

The drumming and best bass awards, which went to Flint Scottish and Windsor Police, respectively, were correct when originally announced.

“We apologize to all bands for this unfortunate error,” said PPBSO President Bob Allen. “We thought that we had prepared for holding the Grade 4 competition in two heats and then a final, but a computer error was not detected for some time. We are working to ensure that it never happens again.”

The competition was hit by a massive thunderstorm that dumped several inches of rain on the grounds in a matter of minutes, halting events for more than an hour. The Grade 4 Final competition did not start until approximately 5:30 pm and did not conclude until after 7 pm.

  1. Congrats to Penetangore and all the bands. To quote Andrew in his blog Trying to persevere through that mess was theatre of the absurd”. Well done to everyone on the field!”
