SFU wins twice at BC Games

Coquitlam, British Columbia – June 28, 2009 – Simon Fraser University won both the MSR and Medley events in Grade 1 at the annual BC Highland Games on a warm and sunny day. Dowco Triumph Street managed two second prizes, ahead of Alberta Caledonia, making it a rare three-band contest on the west coast. Twenty-one bands and 140 soloists competed.

At the event the BC Pipers Association awarded a life membership to Willie McErlean, in time with the 30th anniversary of the Triumph Street Pipe Band winning the drumming at the 1979 World Championships in Nottingham, England. It was the first time in the BCPA’s history that a life membership had been awarded to a drummer.

  1. Well done Willie. A most deserving honour to a first class musician and great guy. I enjoyed competing against you when I was young, and enjoyed playing many tunes wtih you over the years.

  2. Nice to see Al Cal travelling west to make a bit of a comp of it. Can anyone tell me when was the last time SFU were actually beaten on Canadian soil?? Must be a while ago now! Regards Daz
