Singapore piping and drumming scene expands at Championship

Singapore – June 13-14, 2009 – The second annual Singapore Pipe Band Championships was held at the St. Joseph Institution, Singapore, with the two-day event one of the few pipe band competitions in the region, drawing competitors from Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore.

In the solo piping only a first-prize was awarded in each category. Callum Lee of the 21st Island Scout Pipe Band of Hong Kong won both the MSR and the Hornpipe & Jig events, while Choo Jun Xiang, Kings Pipers, took the March competition.
 
In the solo snare drumming, Wee Chun Kit, Kings Pipers, won the MSR; Caleb Chan, Kings Pipers, took the Hornpipe & Jig; and Chua Jun Hao, Kings Pipers, won the March.
 
“Most Outstanding Tenor” was awarded to Phua Jun Hao, Kings Pipers, and “Most Outstanding Bass” went to Tan Eng Kway, Kings Pipers.
 
All events were judged by Nat Russell and Bill Russell.
