One of the best days of weather ever for a year’s first RSPBA major saw reigning World Champions Field Marshal Montgomery take the event, starting its season with a flourish. The renewed Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia, under new Pipe-Major Ryan Canning and with more than half of its members new to the band in 2013, made the prize list, while local favourites Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia scored big with a solid second prize. While most of the competing bands in the UK played in glorious warm sunshine in Bathgate, Scotland, the first outdoor competition of the Ontario season was hit with unusually cold temperatures, hovering around 15 degrees, but with a wind coming straight from the Arctic.
