On the road with Pipes & Sticks on Route 66: Days 2 and 3

On the road with Pipes and Sticks On Route 66

Day 2

By Angus MacColl

We all met bright and early at the front door as we had been ordered to do so by Sergeant Major Liddell the previous night. We headed along to meet Kelly who had arranged for us to tour the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. This was an amazing experience – a must when visiting St. Louis.

We then traveled on to Galena, Kansas, where we met Melba, the “Mouth of the South,” at the 4 Women on the Route 66 attraction. We were left in no doubt why she’s called the “Mouth of the South” as she explained to us the story of the actual vehicle that inspired the character of “Sir Tow Mater” for the movie Cars. The vehicle sits at the side of her shop and this made for an excellent photo opportunity.
