After seven straight championship victories, Inveraray & District put an end to Field Marshal Montgomery’s string by taking the European, easing open the door just a bit for all Grade 1 contenders. Inveraray kept threatening for the balance of the season, and FMM recovered from the smack-down fourth it received at the European and promptly resumed its winning ways, taking the next three titles. While the piping and drumming world marvels at FMM’s success, it also welcomes more variety and excitement at the top, and Inveraray, Boghall & Bathgate, St. Laurence O’Toole, ScottishPower and Shotts & Dykehead have slightly more spring in their step.
