Piping Live! 2018 – pipes|drums’ must-see picks

FRIDAY-SATURDAY

Most likely, if you’re in Glasgow you’re either competing at the World Pipe Band Championships or slogging around Glasgow Green trying your best to hear the bands or get served at the beer tent. Take a pink brolly.

On all counts . . . good luck!

The After-World’s Shindig

If you’re not partying hard with your bandmates, you’re drowning your sorrows somewhere, or, if you’re sensible, at the Piping Centre for some great new music from Assynt and the launch of Hamish Napier’s new album, The Railway.

When: 10 pm
Where: National Piping Centre
Price: £10

SUNDAY

If you’re still in Glasgow and lucid, here’s something pretty dang interesting . . .

Gordon Duncan

Thunderstruck

Thunderstruck is the story of the great composer, performer and recording artist, Gordon Duncan. An interactive, one-man theatrical extravaganza that explores the history, strict traditions and culture surrounding bagpipe music and how Duncan rocked the piping world. “Take whatever romantic notion you have about bagpipes and leave them at the door.”

Time: 4 pm
Where: National Piping Centre
Price: £15

Jeez-o! What a week!

If you’re concerned about investing even more into piping and drumming, just consider the relatively small amount when weighed against the tens-of-thousands you’ve already put into your art.

In for a penny . . .

Have a great festival!
